Server setup help


Hello all

I'm now to linux and have install Knoppix the new one. Don't know if was a good idea. Any better to a complete newbie. Most have GUI

The linux box is going to be my server and my only linux box/PC. I need help to find software for this server. I have look around, but need help.

My server is being switch to linux for better performs. I hoop so.....

Hardware setup.
Abit VP6 board
2xP3 1ghz cpu 133 bus mhz
1 GB sd pc 133
Fx5200 128 mb ram
NEC 3500 DVD burner
ASUS DVD drive
3-5 hd's

Software needs!!! This is where i need help.

OS ( Knoppix, does it support 2 cpu's?)
FTP server: Need user, group, speed and GUI setup) Use G6 ftp server on windows, this I like.

Mail server. For 5-30 users, webmail support, intra mail.

Remote desktop from windows to linux. Like in windows....

DVD burner software whit GUI.

Hoop someone will help me.

1. All linux distro's support multiple processors. You'll likely have to re-compile you kernel. There are many guides, so seach "compile Kernel" in the search field of the forum.

2. FTP software. I like PROftpd, but some people like vsftpd. There is a really nice tutorial on PROftp on linuxquestions, right here. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ticle&artid=17

3. I don't use any mail server, I'll leave that to the next person who posts.

4. Remote Desktop, use the command line and secure shell.

5. For DVD burning software, K3B is my suggestion but I don't know if you are using KDE or Gnome
