Serial port mulfunctioning?

Hi all, I am new on the forum, so greetings to you.

I have installed RedHat Linux 9 on my IBM ThinkPad T23 laptop and am trying to connect to an EVM board with its serial port. I have started with the minicom program and config the settings already. However, I can not get any response from the board which was loaded with OS already. May I ask where to look for the serial port hardware and driver information on the linux system. It would help a bounch. Thanks in advance. (The port functions fine on MS Windows with COM4 setting, I have tried with ttyS0~3 under the /dev directory on Linux system, no success)

I have found that minicom is not easy to configure. One wrong setting can keep you from connecting and will not tell you why.
I found a floppy distro (now unavailable) called Serial Linux to be very helpful. Minicom is already configured correctly and working.

EDIT: Temp link deleted.

Good Luck.

Have you checked the /etc/rc.sysinit file? You should get the information on which ttySx your serial port is assigned to there. For example, I think there are some sentences like "/bin/sertserial /dev/ttyS0 irq4 port 0x3f8 uart 16550A
Then you know your first serial port is /dev/ttyS0 with the irq 4
I have never used minicom, no idea on this.
