Serial Modem - Inop on FC6

Greetings.
I have this interesting problem.
I am using an Acer Veriton 7200D machine - intel based server - very basic and rather generic.
I am using a serial modem, a 56K V.90 K56 Flex compatible device.
This is a hardware modem which functioned admirably on SuSE 10.0 on port /dev/ttys0
I have been trying to connect with kppp.
I would like to use kppp because it is more user-friendly than the cli options.

I have tried dumping hayes commands directly to the port ... but I don't get anything.
Any ideas on what may be the problem?
I will be trying wvdial - if it exists on fc6 - when I get back to my own house ...

I hope this is going to be fixable!! lol

I'm not so sure FC6 supports dial up. My modem is Creative Labs external serial, which works great on Ubuntu, but FC6 wouldn't even recognize it. Wish I could help.

have you tried using dmesg and looking for a line that looks something like ttyS0 at 0x02f8 (irq=3) is a 16550A actual output may vary by machine but you get the point. once you find this then just use the setserial command to set it, then try kppp, but make sure to tell kppp which com port you modem is on eg ttySx.

when i set up my modem in mandriva i did just that minus the setserial stuff but some distros might require it, and i told kppp where my modem was and it worked perfect. hope this helps somewhat.

no, worth a shot though. It's in a physical port though - /dev/ttyS0 is supposed to point at the first serial port ... that's where the modem is plugged in.
As for not supporting dial-up ... it'd be pretty stupid if they didn't!
Especially since they have included various modem related tools ... I suspect that may be the case though.
Thanks for the suggests people.
