serial digital camera
 
i have gtkam gtkam-gimp, but those only allow usb cameras, where can i get drivers for serial camers?

I'm not sure if there is such a thing as serial mass storage kernel modules (not at a Linux box at the moment, so I can't really check either), but if so, you could possibly use that to access your camera as an external harddisk, albeit a small one :D

Alternatively, as is always suggested, is that if your device is a compact flash, or other removable media, you could buy a USB reader...?

You would not need a driver per se for the camera if its a serial interface. What you will need is the serial port parameters ie. baud rate, parity, number of stop bits etc and the communication protocol. The protocol is what commands to send to the camera so that it dumps the pictures. These commands are some combination of ASCII characters and maybe you could find some info on web or something might be in the manual if you have it. Do you have the windows application that came with it?
