Question Sendmail with LDAP-based mailboxes

I have been searching for a few hours and cant seem to put my finger on the solution. My question is regarding sendmail and it not using the local user accounts as its source for mailbox names.
I already have cyrus set up to use ldap with squirrelmail but sendmail will not accept email destined to the user account. With out posting my config, how would I get sendmail to accept mail from an ldap user that is not in the passwd file?

Thanks.
