I have a webserver running Fedora Core 3 which also runs Sendmail and Dovecot. It took some doing to get this going at first, but it has been problem-free since then. (Too problem-free obviously because I've never had to look into this in this much detail :-()
However, yesterday I deleted a user (who'd never even been used) off the system through Webmin, and since then none of the remaining users have been getting mail.
When mail comes in, it is accepted by sendmail no probs, but when it has to go in the user's mailbox, the error is procmail exited with EX_TEMPAIL and the mail gets queued. Here's a sample syslog msg:
2006-12-02 10:23:39 Mail.Info C0A80105 sendmail: kB27Ivf2007392: to=<email@example.com>, ctladdr=<firstname.lastname@example.org> (500/4), delay=03:04:41, xdelay=00:00:02, mailer=local, pri=398172, dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: local mailer (/usr/bin/procmail) exited with EX_TEMPFAIL
Unfortunately this is the first time I've even heard of procmail sitting in the middle. There's no .procmailrc, .forward and the like anywhere, but I don't know if there was before.
All the users have home/user/mail folders, and according to Webmin this is where Sendmail is looking to put the mail. As far as I can see, nothing has changed in the setup. So the question is, what on earth did Webmin do when I deleted the user? And how do I put this right?
I'd be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Tell me what other info needs posting?
