Sendmail: How do I config to write separate file for every email

Running standard RH8 install.

Hi,

I here there is a way to configure sendmail to write a seperate file for every email in a users mail box.

This is opposed to sendmail using one file for all messages.

What is the configuration called and how do I set it up?

Thanks.

What you're looking for is using maildir format instead of mbox format. I don't know exactly how to do it, but this'll give you a headstart.

Sendmail has a command line utility to help you create a sendmail config file. It might be an option there.

Or you could switch to QMail which uses maildir format by default.

thanks...

I need to find out what the best software and configuration is for my mail server.

I'll start a different post for that.

webmin is a good one, sendmail also comes with a program crafting a new config from the command line.

take a look at:

http://www.lifewithqmail.org it gives a good overview on how to setup qmail with the maildir format, the benefit being that an email client should be able to display messages more quickly since it doesn't have to traverse a huge file (containing all emails).
