Sendmail died on Slackware 10.2

Can anyone help me figure out why Sendmail died on my slackware 10.2 server?
I had sendmail running, but it was not configured.

When it crashed, it locked me out of the system. I could not log in via ssh, or on the console. I had to power cycle the box to recover it.
The following was on the console and in the syslog.

Code:

That is a hard kernel crash, something is definitely wrong there.

Either you have a hardware problem (have you run the machine for long periods of time without sendmail running?), or perhaps you were the victim of some sendmail DoS, since you hadn't configured sendmail properly (or at all, actually).

If sendmail isn't configured, are you even using it? If so, you should try to disable services from running if they are not needed. But like the other poster mentioned, this isn't an issue with sendmail your seeing.

This server is a new re-install. I had the previous version running as my backup mail server. I installed sendmail, but had not gotten around to importing the config back. I've stopped sendmail from running until I re-configure it.

You think this could be a problem with sendmail running without proper configs?
