Sendmail Configuration.

Hi,
I am trying to configure sendmail for one of our clients. Sending mail using sendmail works fine. It is confirued in such a way that it uses mail gateway mailgate.lcm.nl to send the emails.
Issue is when receiving emails.
How can I configure sendmail to receive emails.
MX records for the main domain lcmg.com is configured.
How can I configure mails for subdomain. We want to configure gforge.lcmg.com.

Should I set up a rule?

I'll give this a shot, since you posted yesterday morning and haven't received a reply. If I err, I hope those more knowledegable than I am will correct my error(s).

If I understand this correctly, sendmail has a companion called fetchmail. Sendmail to send it to the outside world, and fetchmail to get if from the outside world. Then there is procmail, as an overlay to send- and fetchmail, to process incoming and outgoing mail, and logging both. Then you may also want something like SpamAssassin to deal with spam.

Did I mention antivirus software to protect any Windows machines on your client's network?

Or, install postfix (which does the work of both send- and fetchmail), along with procmail and SpamAssassin.

There are also other MTAs you could look into.

Sendmail config.

Thankyou for your reply.

How can I configure sendmail to receive email from outside world (specific to my subdomain.)

for example:
Gmail has it mail exchanger named : gmail-smtp-in.1.google.com

Hence all the mails from outside world to alias@gmail.com will be routed to this exchange server record.

How will this happen in case of a subdomain : gforge.gmail.com

Mails in this case will still be routed to gmail.com MX.

How can I reprocess to forward these mails to my subdomain.
alias@gforge.gmail.com

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thankyou once again for your reply.

bigrigdriver has the right idea.

Sendmail does just what it sound like - it sends mail. It does not receive mail.

You need an MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) to receive email. The most popular ones are probably Postfix and Exim (in no particular order).

Procmail is probably outside of what you need right now as it is a mail filter (send emails with this subject to this mailbox, for example) rather than a sender or receiver.

There are numerous tutorials on the web that deal with setting up Postfix or Exim. I think you would be able to find a good HOWTO on howtoforge.com for either.
