sendmail config problem

I have a server (call it that I have somehow managed to misconfigure. Something is set so that messages generated by my server for root are getting sent externally to This is annoying to the admins at becuase they are getting all of my cron messages. Anyone know what I need to change so that messages get sent to root@localhost?
I suspect sendmail is the problem, I have a fairly vanilla RedHat 9 installation. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

well, after many hours with the sendmail doc (joy) I tried installing a newer rpm from RedHat (security patch) and now all is well. No idea where the configuration problem was...
