sendmail antivirus overhead

I have been looking for a sendmail antivirus program, and haven't had much luck. It doesn't seem like there are a lot of sendmail antivirus programs. So by a little deduction, I would tend to think that most people don't virus scan on the server.

Why is this? The only reason I can think of is that it would slow the server down too much. How much would it actually slow down the server?

If you are not foolish(like using the root account all the times) you are safe from viruses
Consider the situation -if a virus is created and attacks your system -unlike in windooze it can't do anything harmful it have no suid or sgid-there are some viruses which embed itself to executables -
even then you are from no danger
So using a anti-virus in Linux is totally foolish
You don't need a antivirus in Linux
Of course there are proprietory viruses which are expensive
