sendmail

i have been trying to get sendmail to work. i finally downloaded webmin to aid me in this emotional experience in my life. a brief description of my setup is as follows:

router belkin, lan domain called HOME

redhat 8.0 running apache DNS search path has HOME for domain.

[joe@schrock321 joe]$ hostname
schrock321
[joe@schrock321 joe]$

i can send mail just fine but receiving mail is a different story. if my isp was blocking port 25 then i wouldn't be able to send mail out from my mail server. or at least this is my best guess.
i can send mail but i cant receive mail i get this error as returned mail when trying to send to my domain

Failed to deliver to 'test@schrock321.com'
SMTP module(domain schrock321.com) reports:
Â_host schrock321.com says:
Â_554 <test@schrock321.com>: Recipient address rejected: Relay access denied

Reporting-MTA: dns; remt25.cluster1.charter.net

Original-Recipient: rfc822;test@schrock321.com
Final-Recipient: rfc822;test@schrock321.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0

thanks for any ideas

Think your problem is in the sendmail.mc file ... by default Sendmail only listens on the loopback address of 127.0.0.1 ....

comment out the line

DAEMON_OPTIONS('PORT=smtp, addr=127.0.0.1, Naame=MTA')dnl

then follow the directions at the top of the sendmail.mc file to make the sendmail.cf file then restart services..... you should then be able to recieve mail.

Hehe ... POSTFIX has the same default setting of listening on the loopback ... you will need to set that as well ..... you may want to adjust a couple other setting from the default to. I was using Mandrake and had email all setup in postfix but later liked the Redhat distro more and switched.

Good Luck!
