Sending numerous e-mails efficiently

Dear friends,

At the moment I'm working for a touristic company. We need to send a newsletter monthly to about 1000 clients. So far, we have been doing this through thunderbird, by sending the newsletter to 30 memebers at a time since thunderbird is unable to send to more recipients than this at a time. This is probably a limit on the SMTP server we are using rather than thunderbird's limitation. In any case, you can imagine this is a slow and painful process. So, does anyone know of an efficient way to send so many e-mails all at once? I've been reading a bit about gnu mailman and smartlist (procmail), but I'm not sure if this is the right solution.
Any ideas or pointers?
Thanks,
-NSKL

You could try using mailx or any other unix functionality to send mails to multiple recievers at the same time , though i have used only mailx try the others too.

Can't help further with this problem but can I pose another please?
To set up a list of collected addresses in Thunderbird by copying existing addresses already in the personal addresses section eludes me. I've tried the official help and clumsy experimenting but would like the 'right' way through! Using ver 2.0.0.0.
