Segmentation fault question.

I keep getting segmentation faults with firefox, opera and other software. Is this the fault of the software or my system?

I can't believe that so many apps are causing segfaults by there own fault.

p.s I know what a segmentation fault is.

If you start these programs from a terminal, could you provide any pertinent messages they give?

It just says "Segmentation Fault" and output from various plugins. It ain't the plugins because they crash even without plugins.

And it isn't just browsers.

Cheers. It happens in Slackware and Ubuntu with two radically different kernel versions so I guess it isn't a distro fault.

Also I've remembered that I've only disabled the plugins and not actually uninstalled them. I'll try that to make sure it's definitely 100% a plugin fault or not.

dx0r515t, I think your issue might be with misconfigured fonts. Take a look at the BLFS mailing list starting with this post:
http://linuxfromscratch.org/pipermai...il/059167.html

extrasolar, yours may be with the name service switch (NSS) configuration file (more likely because other network apps are affected). Of course more information would be good, for example the line of run-mozilla.sh that sparks the segfault.
