A segmentation fault usually means either the program has a bug, or the shared libraries are the wrong version.

If it was working before and now it won't, it's probably a bug that is triggered by something. Maybe your configuration was written to a file that now get's read and triggers the bug (I'm not familiar with how Emelfm2 operates).

It's worth a try to rename or delete any configuration file it might read. If you don't know what file, type this in a command shell:
Code:
ls -tora ~/
That will give you a list of files in your home directory with the most recently modified files last. The configuration file you are interested in probably starts with a period and should be the last one (unless you've done someting else since first causing the crash).

i tried renaming emelfm2's configuration files, but i still get the segmentation fault when i start the program. i then built emelfm2 from source again and installed it, but still i get the same error. never mind, its not urgent that i use emelfm2, so im going to take the opportunity to try out some other file managers. thanks for your help ken

just to update, ken you were right about the config files causing the segmentation fault. the reason why renaming the config files didnt work initially was because i renamed the wrong files i renamed the 'emelfm' config files NOT the 'emelfm2' config files, which are found here -->

'~/.config/emelfm2/'

emelfm2 now starts again
