Segment Faults in Mandriva

I have recently installed Mandriva LE 2005 from FTP. The distribution is very nice, however, programs have been crashing frequently. So far this includes Firefox, RealPlayer 10, and Adobe Acrobat Reader 7. When run from the terminal, these programs only display a "Segment Fault" message. I have found perhaps 10 core files among my documents traced to these programs.

Some things to know: RealPlayer and Adobe Acrobat were not included with the base packages, so I downloaded and installed these RPMs separately. This required that I install libstdc+5 (from the official ftp server). I have read warnings in the past against installing glibc packages. Could this be related? The Flashplayer plug-in used in Firefox was the only other piece of software that was not installed from the ftp server, so I suppose it could be causing Firefox to crash as well.

How can I determine what is causing these programs to crash? Is there a site that has packages for RealPlayer and Adobe Acrobat that are compiled for Mandriva?

Now graveman is starting to leave core files as well (it is an official build from one of the mirrors). I burned 3 cds last night. This morning I found 9 core files sitting in my home directory, all from graveman. I was getting these from all of the aforementioned programs.
Code:
core.29336: ELF 32-bit LSB core file Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), SVR4-style, SVR4-style, from 'graveman'
