Seeking advice for using an iPod Touch with Debian Lenny

I am running Debian Lenny with xfce4. I just bought a used iPod Touch (1st gen) yesterday (4/8/10).

Dropbox works great, easy way to transfer files. My yahoo mail account also works very well.

Gtkpod works great with my iPod Shuffle, but does not seem to work with the iTouch. My PC does not seem to automatically mount the iTouch.

Any thoughts on iFuse, or Floola? Or would I be better off trying to run iTunes under Wine?

I have an XP laptop with iTunes installed, maybe I should just use that to sync music, and my Yahoo contacts? I would also like to sync to my yahoo calendar, but I know of no way to that - maybe I could sync my yahoo calendar to google calendar, and use Floola to sync to the iTouch?

I have managed to mount and sync my iPhone 3G fw 3.1.2 following that guide. Keep in mind that the guide is made for Gentoo distro, but you can see what are the programs needed and the steps you have to follow in order to get it to work with Linux.

Also make sure you read the comments at the end of the guide, as some things have changed since the guide was written. You will have to use as well ifuse v1.0 at least in other for libimoviledevice to work.

It might get a little bit tricky and painful, but at the end, it works pretty well.

PS: Forgot to post the guide http://www.geekbin.net/main/2010/01/...x-full-gentoo/

My ipod touch syncs yahoo website contacts & calender,
Just a matter of settings on the ipod.
Transfering files (pdf, mp3, etc) nautilus using "connect to network" works just fine.
My box is a Compaq n610C running Debian Lenny

My itouch behaves perfectly with rhythmbox on ubuntu 10.04.

No configuration, or "jailbreaking" required.

I know some people don't like the 'buntus ( I realise this increasingly includes myself! ), but surely it is preferable to itunes?

Hope you get it working with Lenny.

network connect

Hi there guys.

Say, UncleRay, would you mind giving me some pointers in how to manage the network connection between the ipod touch and the computer using nautilus?

I'd very much appreciate your help.

Regards,

AG
