Seeding - what do I need to set up?

Hi,

Okay, for a silly question, I admit this to be one.

How do I set Transmission up to seed something?

Do I need to open a ports? I downloaded an ISO, now I'd like to help seeding it. I got it working once before (on Fedora), but (for blisters) I cant remember how I pulled that one of... :)

By the way, the "port for incomming peers" reports as closed...

Tnx

Thor

Hi Thor,
An even sillier question: ;) Is this "seeding" with respect to a torrent you're creating?

Hey there,

Well, I downloaded a torrent for a distro (Ubuntu - someone at work wants to try Linux) and would like to seed the contents now...just to "give something back"...but Transmission is connected to a handfull of peers and no upload starts of...

Eh...just a way to use up my 320Gb/month limit... :D

I think all you need to do is leave your torrent program up and running. I notice that after a few minutes you'll see the upload speed start to mount. After I've downloaded the file completely the status goes from "downloading" to "seeding". This is done automatically. I'm using ktorrent. Don't forget to use moblock. ;)

Yes it should automatically start seeding once it's fully downloaded but you can also manually start a seed by choosing the menu option to create new torrent. Choosing this option you will have to change the name slightly because it will be identical to the one you downloaded. Reseeding it after you have downloaded it will give it more download speed to others that don't have it already. Make sure you don't have any firewalls blocking and that your router isn't blocking the proper port as well. Check out this link it should help you out. http://forum.mininova.org/index.php?showtopic=234992250
