security software for ubuntu and linix


is there any free soft were like double password. so that u can not run the computer with out putting in a usb pen. i use in on my windows computer. however i would like to run in on my ubuntu computer.

I never heard of "double password" before.

Reading the information, I cannot see the benefit unless it encrypts the hard disk (but I cannot find any evidence that it does).

It would be a very simple exercise to boot off a live CD and gain access to the data.

Or extract the hard drive and move it to another machine.

If you are serious about security, you should consider using encryption software to encrypt the data.

Having an USB key with encryption key or code is trivial to do. Read a little about udev device handling and built one (or find a tutorial about it, but understanding is always better)

Ok then
password protection and nearly hacker and virus proof yet you still want more
people are getting crazy over security and rendering there own system useless

smeezekitty, just imagine that you have information on your machine that you don't want anyone else to have access to.

Ok, now lets say this machine is in an area that anyone can get to (or that it's a laptop).

Do you think that password security will prevent someone rebooting and running a Live CD?
