Secure Password Authenication

I have recently purchased a new computer and decided not to pay the microsoft tax. I install Red Hat 8.0.

I need to attach to a News Group server that requires SPA, Microsoft Secure Password Authenication. I have down loaded Agent and it works with Wine. Agent using MS libraries for SPA and it doesn't work. The library files are not included in Wine.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I remembered seeing a project that was started to overcome this but it doesn't seem to have done much lately. They say it is still in pre-alpha but it may be worth a go. Here is the URL.

I downloaded the msncd project and gave it a shot. I couldn't get it working. I read through some of the project notes and this look pretty dead.

Any other suggestions?
