Secure digital card permissions

Is it not possible to write to a SD card in linux with certain card readers? I bought a 12-in-1 reader and I cannot write to any of my SD cards if I use the 12-in1 reader.. However, if I put the card in my camera, I can write to it just fine. This is a little inconvienent. Does anybody else share this phenomon?

OK, I think that my reader is just incompatible (or possibly just cheap and/or a piece of crap) and can't write to an SD card. I can, however, write to my XD card through it. I tried a different way of writing to the SD card through my mp3 player and I was able to just fine. I guess I either need to find another multiple format reader or just buy an SD reader that is compatible with linux.
