SD card reader not functioning:
Hi I cannot access my factory SD card reader. I am using Mint 18.04
The reader was functioning well until I apparently forgot to "eject" the card last time I used it, now the computer does not see the drive when I insert a card. I have had this problem before when running Ubuntu. It seems the only fix is to re-install the operating system. I am wondering if there is a simple way to get the reader working again and why does this occur? Tukatz |
You need to narrow down the list of suspects, which includes the OS, the card reader, and the card itself.
Boot to a live CD of something not *buntu-based and test the card reader under the live CD. Make sure to test the card in a card reader on a different computer to make sure the card is in working order. Also, if you have (or can borrow) a different card, test with that. If the card works in another computer, but in with the Live CD, it could be that the card reader itself is damaged. |
card reader not working:
Very strange: I plugged an external card reader in to a usb port and it read my SD card. Later I tried another card in the built in reader and it worked, then I returned to the previous card I was trying to access and now it works again. I've never seen this happen before and I have no explanation for what happened but I'm pleased the reader is working. Thanks Frank for the tips. Tukatz
