screwed up display as terminal

OK, Here goes.

I am using Centos 5.2 with an nvidia dual head display card using the real nvidia drivers. This system is being used as a terminal for a vax system. I have x starting with a -query "VAX system". If i use only a single head display it works fine. I have tried to do a cloned screen and that just shows up some green squiggly stuff in the upper right hand corner of the screen and x shuts down and then tried to restart. If i do an extended desktop the main screen is fine but the other screen will be a jumbled mess.

Now if I just run the normal start x and start x windows without the query it works fine. Is there something in decwindows that I need to do? But if that's for a dual head why would a cloned screen screw up also, as this is just one display instead of 2 separate displays.

I have a few quarters so I would love to buy a clue on this.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Could you please post your xorg.conf file wrapped in [code] tags, please?
That would probably give some of us a good idea as to what's going on.

I'm sorry - I've been looking over this for a day or two, now, and the I can't think of what may be the matter.

Now, I have never had an Nvidia card (I've only ever had ATI cards - just worked out that way), but when you install the binary installer (from ATI) for their graphics card drivers, it gives you a very nice GUI configurator for doing everything the card can support. Do the official Nvidia drivers provide the same tool?

Yes it does. I have tried everything I can think of. I have even went back to a single monitor configuration, and the NVIDIA drivers will not even show the display from the xdm query. I just don't get it

    Option	"TwinViewOrientation" "CLone"

You don't define

Screen 1 "Screen1" RightOf "Screen0"

also:

Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
.......
  Option "AIGLX" off
  Option "xinerama" on
  Option "clone" on
EndSection
Also bear in mind that these extras tend to expose the bugs in said drivers for said cards. Be sure to use the latest and greatest to maximize bug fixes, "if possible".

I didnt think that you needed to specify the layout of the monitors if they are cloned.

Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
.......
  Option "AIGLX" off
  Option "xinerama" on
  Option "clone" on
EndSection
Should I change mine to this cause I could not get the clone mode to work at all with xinerama on. all I could get was an extended desktop. even with enabling clone.

That was just cut and pasted from mine. To let you know that the options existed. xinerama would be off and clone on for what you seem to be trying to do. I've got mine setup to use a TV as a second screen for my laptop. Mainly to play movies and such on a bigger screen (-display 1:0 for mplayer).

Clone should be the default setting. Assuming a common resolution between both displays. Which might mean lowering your resolution to make that happen. In my case the external display was rated for 1024x768, but I was never able to improve upon 800x600 with the connection method (composite cable). That might have been 640x480, it was a while ago.

Im using 2 identical 24 in monitors so that is not an issue. Now I am using this to boot into init 4 and init 4 goes straight to a vax system for its display. it calls xdm - query vax. If i use the native centos 5.2 nvidia driver i get a display but only on 1 monitor the other monitor is just a jumbled mess that only uses about the top 3 inches of the monitor. If I use the NVIDIA driver thats all i get on both monitors. so what could be wrong?
