Talking screenshot

Hi there!
I am wondering, can mplayer take screenshots, or is there some another program to take screenshots from videos?

Check the -vo option for Mplayer.

mplayer -vo help

Then use the timecode seek to start png dumping at a certain second during the film... it'll fill up space fast!

It can dump to png and I think jpeg too. I used it once to get a few dozen frames of an exploding cat from Boondock Saints.

Taken out of context I know that sounds deranged.

xine can take screenshots as well, its a button on the controls. depends on what skin you are using where it is and what it looks like. I'm sure there is a key for it too..

The harder, less *high res* (but yet, another) way could be to pause the video, and take a capture of just the window playing the film. If you want multiples, you could play it in super slow mo and pause at each frame.
