screensaver with image sorting capability?

gnome-screensaver takes images and randomly places them on the screen (obviously). but i need my images to be displayed in certain order (sorted by date or alphabetically, for example). no such option for this application. any other similar application that can do what i need? or any way of tweaking gnome-screensaver?

I've also been wondering if such a thing exists. It would be fantastic for sorting huge collections of images by custom defined categories into subfolders and not rely on some fad tagging system.

I never found anything so wrote my own web app which is a web-based file manager with keyboard shortcuts to sort into subfolders.

i just built/installed xscreensaver. nothing in it that indicates a sorting option. you can only select the "theme" (folder) that you want to use, but within that folder images seem to be displayed randomly. i guess i could look through the source code and add a sorting option within it. i just don't want to "reinvent the wheel" if there is a screensaver out there that can do what i need.
