Screen Becomes Blank When X-windows start

Dear Experts,

I am running Red Hat AS 2.1 on a PIII. However, recently, the screen goes blank when xwindows start and the system is supposed to display the login screen. The video card seems to working properly becasue the Graphic Bootloader of GRUB can be seen and the machine can be used in text mode.

I there any log file where the X-Server writes out it errors? or any way I can see any error messages is generates? What would be a good starting point in solving this problem?

Look in /var/log/ there should be an xfree86 or xorg log file (depending on which you use).

Also you can press CTRL+ALT+1 to see the X start up messages in a terminal.
