Unhappy Screen Adjustment

Frustration level is high!
As a newly convinced Linux fan. I have installed Linux as a dual boot on my laptop. Everything seems to be working fine except that
the on-screen image is skewed. It has placed it self down and left, so that I can only see half the screen (and bottom at top).
How can easily adjust this without risking to destroy my install and my hardware.
I have a SiS630 graphics card.

Thx a lot
Tautologies

OOOOOPS......
I seem to have left my brain downstairs.

I should have asked you first which image you were talking about.

try www.linux-laptop.net - there's hundreds of pages there on just about every laptop that exists. offhand tho, it sounds like you might need to get the "sis" driver setup in you /etc/XF86Config file.

try running

/usr/X11R6/bin/xvidtune

You can tweak the positioning of the desktop on the monitor using it.

Make sure you are logged in as root, and as the previous poster stated, there are various issues with SiS cards, and many of them need special options to be entered into the XF86Config file in order to work properly.

Just try maybe a search on google, or a seach on the xfree86.org site.
