Exclamation Scanning sistem on boot?!?

When I'm booting my SuSE 8.1 it all goes exactly as it shoul until line "Scanning system on boot" when booting just stop. I still can write something after that line but, of course, nothing happend. So I'v had to reinstall the system.

Why did this happened? Maybe because I've turned on the DMA mode on mu hard drive on the session before?

hi

its possible that dma can work erratically with some hard disks. thats why its turned off by default. you will have to be cautius with your approaches when optimizing the system. a reinstall definitely wouldnt have been necessary. you can boot into single user mode and just turn off dma if that had been the issue.

How do I boot to single mode user interface? I suppose it has something to do with passing grub some parameters like init x?

Thanks on answer(s)...
