Say goodbye to Back button

I guess a lot of you get tired of moving the mouse to the top-left corner of Mozilla and back to your page. Here's your answer.

Log in as root
Download & install
Quit Mozilla
Open terminial
su
chmod 755 -R /usr/lib/mozilla/chrome/mozgest
Log out
Log in as user
Open Mozilla
Go Edit> Pref> Advanced> Mouse guestures

Hold left mouse button and move the mouse a bit left to go back to a previous page and right to the next.

Yah, thats neat, Opera had it for a long time too.
I just somehow find easier to press the back button or use keyboard shortcuts tho... :D

The reason I posted the 2nd link is people like you think this plug-in replaces only back button. No! It replaces a LOT of things. There's one for Windows in which you rotate the mouse counter-clock-wise and it goes back one page. Clock-wise next page.

The diff is you can do it with one hand without looking carefully at what menu/button you're opening/clicking. I'm sure people at work would appreciate the increased productivity.

The same is true for wheel mouse. A lot of people are liking it and using it. Mouse gesture is the next big thing that MS might implement into IE.

Will the degree of gesture detemine how far back it goes? What I mean is if you move the mouse a little it goes back one page, but move it a long way and it moves back 5/6/7 pages? Or does it only do one page per gesture? If it is the later, I doubt it'd increase much productivity. Perhaps left-clicking and scrolling up/down to flick back/forwards would be more productive?

first, just get Opera, it's a lot better and it works with all plugins. And to answer Thymox, only one gesture per page. So you could drag your mouse until your heart's content, but you're only going back one page.

Ah, now you see, that to me would slow things down, not speed them up. For myself, at least, the difference in time between click, drak, click, drag, click drag, etc to go back several pages, versus move, click, pull click is enormous! It would be good if left-click-and-scroll to flick back/forth was implemented. Nevertheless, it's a good development and I'm sure many, many people will use it.

FWIW, most if not all my friends use the mouse even when clicking Enter is faster. One is a Linux user. I see the same scenario at work and college. I seem to be the only one among those I know that use keyboard shortcuts to the max. Even after I told them what keys to click. They forgot in a min.

Maybe you should suggest this feature to the team.

He he. Enter is probably one of the only keyboard shortcuts that I do use when browsing... it just flows so nicely from typing search criteria! I'm slowly getting used to using Ctrl+ PgUp/PgDn for flicking between tabs, though.

naa.. the mouse gestures in Opera are a lot faster than any keyboard shortcut. Use them and you'll know that they truly are a lot faster. bringing your hand to and from the mouse to navigate webpages is a pain. Mouse gestures all the way.

Well done, but I ain't need it, thanks. But it looks promising.

I tend to prefer just a quick [ctrl + ( left or right arrow key )] to go back and forth instead of using the mouse to click the back or forward button. Just as fast, just as convienent cause I tend to have my hands on the keyboard more than the mouse.
