saving getit files

I am running Mint 13

When I want to nake a note or something to save for editing later, I like to put it on desktop.

But it is saving them as a hidden file, and nothing on desktop.

How can I teach gedit to behave?

I assume you mean files created using gedit and not getit. Why not just save them to ~/Desktop?

The hidden files are backup files.
