save option in .emacs

I set word wrap on in emacs, and now I would like to save the option in .emacs.
Instead of going to .emacs file and put the configuration there, I would like to know if exist a command to save the options that I enabled during my time in emacs? So, the next time that I open emacs, word wrap is already on.

Emacs allows you to have multiple configuration files. From my experience, you need to save .emacs in your home directory (/home/you/.emacs).

Otherwise, I think it is possible to change the option in the global configuration file in /etc. You will have to assume root to do it, and the changes will affect all users of the system.
