saslauthd dead but subsys locked!

i'm currently running FC2 and my saslauthd is not running. When ever i start it , it's fine but when i stop it , it fails. I check the saslauthd status and the shell prompt this message

[root@localhost init.d]# ./saslauthd start
Starting saslauthd: [ OK ]
[root@localhost init.d]# ./saslauthd stop
Stopping saslauthd: [FAILED]
[root@localhost init.d]# ./saslauthd status
saslauthd dead but subsys locked
[root@localhost init.d]#

Can anybody please guide me how to get rid of the "saslauthd dead but subsys locked". I've tried deleting the /var/lock/subsys/saslauthd but no good!

Thank you!

hig
