what are you getting for an error message?

is your hard drive mounted? (ie can you read it?)

is it mounted read/write? I think knoppix mounts all external drives read-only by default, you must re-mount them
read/write manually...maybe there is an option to do so in the right click menu on the desktop icon.

can you access the internet running from your Knoppix cd? If so, copy and post the exact results of your command attaempt so we can see exactly what is happening, like this:
Code:
crashedagain@Desktop:~$ ls /me
ls: /me: No such file or directory
crashedagain@Desktop:~$ ls /media/
cdrom cdrom0 floppy floppy0 hda1 hda2 hda3 hda4 hda5 hdb1 hdb2 hdb5 hdb6 hdb7 hdb8 sdb1 tmp usb usb0
crashedagain@Desktop:~$ ls /media/hda1
arcldr.exe autoexec.bat boot.ini Documents and Settings hpfr5550.xml io.sys ntdetect.com pagefile.sys Recycled
arcsetup.exe avg7qt.dat config.sys found.000 imsi msdos.sys ntldr Program Files winnt
crashedagain@Desktop:~$
just saying "it's not working" doesn't tell us much.

Unless the application uses a logfile or logs to syslog, all the output goes to your display. If you ran the application inside 'screen' you could easily copy text using CTRL+A;[ and paste it using CTRL+A;]. If you did not run the application inside screen you can probably select the text with your mouse and paste it in a textfile. If you run the application inside a terminal window in one of the Desktop Environments maybe you take a screenshot with one of the included tools or with like 'import -window root screenshot.png' or 'xwd -display localhost:0 -root > screenshot.dmp' or 'xv screenshot.jpg' or The Gimp. BTW please do not post your questions as separate thread. While it may be urgent to you, posting duplicate questions also violates the LQ Rules, so please don't.

Good Morning

Actually i didn't updated this thread for long time so i thought to make a new thread.

Anyways thanks for your answer.

Your advised is highly appriceated.

I cant take the snapshot of copy it with the mouse.
as it is a huge file.

it is comming like this

Shred:/dev/sda : pass 6/6(000000).........1GB/150GB 1%
.....
.
.
.so many lines
.
.
Shred:/dev/sda : pass 6/6(000000).........150GB/150GB 100%

Will this sanatization will not create any report or log file,
so that i can check the file and confirm that the sanatization has been done..

Is their any way to confirm the sanatization process is completed.

The command i user for sanatizing is
# shred -n 5 -vz /dev/sda

Please help me out.
