Sane
Hi everybody, anyone with a tip for me?
I am trying to get my scanner, Epson Perfection 660 going under RED Hat 9. I downloaded the newest version of SANE, as targz. Unpacked it. Then I also downloaded the relevant targz for an Agfa snapscan, which is what the scanner is, apparently. I tried, as su, ./configure. No such file. I tried make. No makefile. I tried automake, no something or other. Why don't SANE supply a makefile with the download. Where can I get it?? This all worked super with Spiralsynthmodular. Where is the makefile I need? Thanks for any tips in advance Peter |

Well, as I unpacked SANE, it didn't all unpack. Now it is installed ok, but still won't work.
Buy another scanner seems to be the right thing to do: which one? |
took a while for me to find out why mine wasn't working
what results do you get when you type in a terminal $ xsane |
I get no sane devices found (I would mind if it found an insane device, as long as it scans!! Just a joke)
I have installed the firmware from Epson (tail_058.bin), put the firmware path and /dev/usb/scanner0 bus=usb in snapscan.conf, and the vendor and product id in /etc/modules.conf. scanimage -T worked once. scanimage -L works sometimes. sane-find-scanner finds (probably) Epson Perfection 660 on /dev/usb/scanner0 I have now run out of ideas, except to buy another scanner!! Which one? |
sane sees something some times?
what results do you get when you type in a terminal $ xsane xsane is the gui frontend for sane it should pop up an error klick details and eliminate the ten or so reasons it cant find the scanner you need to find the sane config file for the epson 660 and see if the /dev/usb/scanner0 has a # infront of it I have no idea where this would be try locate epson at the command line |
The Epson Perfection 660 is an Agfa Snapscan. The snapscan.config is in /etc/sane.d, where all the others are too.
There is no # in front of the line, as I got rid of it. And the other details (vendor and product id) are in /etc/module.conf. Linux is just not ready to handle all scanners. There is also usr/local/etc/sane.d, but I made sure that the snapscan.config is the same in both diretories. By default, linux looks in /etc/sane.d Any ideas?? |
I am at a loss
I use an epson multifunction printer/scanner it took me several months to to get the scanner working and then it was by chance one of the other LQ posters ( rberry ) bought a similar model and fixed his search on his user name or CX5200 he had a link to a postingon linuxprinting.org about how to get the scanner on the MFP to work these may also help you but if sane sees it and you have drivers for it then it should work if not you may , as I did for so long have multiple instalations of sane causeing it not to work if you are running redhat it came with one if you installed a tarball from the sane site then you have two remove the tarball with make uninstall sane |
