samba won't share, why?


heres my smb.conf

workgroup = MIDEARTH
[Media]
path = /media/Library
guest ok = yes
guest only = yes
guest account = nobody
writable = yes
i can get to the login in wondows but dont now what username and password to use. i thought it wouldnt ask for one with this configuration

Try

[global]
workgroup = MIDEARTH
security = share

Also have you added root user to samba:

smbpasswd -a root

Also check the permissions on the folders themselves, you may need to change the permissions, as root at the console:

chmod 755 /media/library

I think u mean is user level share

1.change in smb.conf

security = user

encrypt_passwords = yes

2.add samba user
add unix user
#adduser test

add samba user
#smbadduser test:test

restart service.

If you use security = share it will display the share first before asking for a password

Did this config work for you: setting the level to share? and adding the users to smbpasswd?
