I'm using the version of Samba that came with Redhat 9. I've tried endlessly to get my smb shares to inherit permissions from the parent folder. I've set the permissions of the parent folder by going to the properties of that shared folder in the GUI. When i add a new sub-folder it doesn't inherit the permissions that i set on the parent folder. Here is a sniplett of my smb.conf file for one of the file shares.

[gdwin]
path = /gdwin
public = yes
writeable = yes
guest ok = yes
inherit permissions = YES
# create mask = 770
# force create mode = 770
# force directory mode = 770
# inherit permissions = yes

I've tried many different combinations of the above commands and nothing seems to work. I restart the smb service everytime i change anything in the conf file. I've also run testparm a number of times. I really need to get this working, please help!!!!

blackrain69: is this for a problem your trying to correct on geedee for windows?

if so, i wouldn't mind speaking with you in person regarding this, i've had some considerable experience with samba/geedee but am currently having problems of a similar nature to what you describe, which is causing the program to fail.
