Samba - When is "socket options = SO_SNDBUF=8192 SO_RCVBUF=8192" Nessesary?

I was told this performance increasing option wasn't necessary in new versions of samba or linux kernel. Is this true? if so when?

Well, I don't use these settings and have no performance problems with Samba, at least under small loads, don't know how it would behave under high usage.

Yes these are to help large file transfers etc.

bumpy - thoughtS?

I would do some testing without the so_sndbuf / so_rcvbuf set and then with it set and then possibly with higher values.

I'm not sure how you would measure it - what program or utility to us for measurement.

I suppose a good 'ol stop watch would work.
