Im just trying to network 2 linux machines on a windows network.
Its not a domain model, just a workgroup.

I have Mandrake 9.1 installed on both machines. With one, Id just like to set up as a stand alone Server in the workgroup.
Ive been to every which configuration menu in both SWAT and Webmin. Im in the right workgroup. And Ive created shares, with usernames and passwords.

Now, I can see the stand alone Samba running on the network from the other windows PC's. But I cant see the network from the Stand alone?? When I go to LinNeighborhood, I cant see anything past the localhost name??

Ive been all over linuxconf as well. I know there's something that Im missing.

Any clues?

Just double checking....but do the windows pc's have file sharing enabled and shares?

Wether they do or not it wouldn't surprise me if you can't see the whole network. Windows can't even do that on an all windows network.

You can still access shares directly by using smbclient and smbmount commands. You may also be able to access them through linneighborhood if you can type in the names directly.

As an alternative to SMB I'd suggest using OpenAFS. It's much better than SMB and there are clients and servers for both linux and windows.
