Here is an odd issue. I have several Redhat 8 boxes configured to share home directories that are auto mounted from a Solaris box hosting from a SAN. The authentication is from a WIN2k Domain.
When I attempt to connect from an NT box by hostname (ie \\linuxbox)
i get "The account is not authorized to log in from this station"
but
if I connect by ip addess (ie \\192.168.1.100) it comes up just fine.
Any ideas?
BTW, I cannot post the smb.conf due to security restrictions. Sorry.
Yes,
everything works exactly as it should. I can see my home directories just as I should. It is very strange. I have checked the DNS and everything is pointing to the correct IP.
Yes...the nmblookup seems to be fine. The odd thing is that it works properly on a few of the clients but others I have to go in using the IP. I thought maybe there was a firewall issue, but that wasn't it.
You say your DNS is working, are you able to resolve in both directions? Names to IPs and IPs to names? Are all the machines members of the domain? If not is there a domain policy that effecting access to/from the non-domain-member machines?
DNS is operational in both directions. All machines are part of a single WIN2k Domain. I removed and readded all host entries in the DNS just to be sure. I have done nslookup, host, and dig to make sure it is coming up right.
