in smb.conf you need to have the following:

security = SHARE
encrypt passwords = Yes
that should show the shares from your windows boxes, however, you will need to map the drive (connect using a different username, if your using XP) to access home directories

It appears that you have multiple subnets. Are you running a WINS server on the network to resolve the names? If you are make sure that your linux server is registering with that wins server.
