Samba fileserver dissapearing from network listing
I've got Samba 2.2.7 running on RH 8 box. Whenever I boot up Samba it shows up on various W2k boxes and I can access my shares and everything is all good. However, after a bit of time it disapears from all of the Windoze machines' network neighbohood lists. I can still get at it from another RH8 box with 'smbclient -L //<machine_name>'.
Anyone ever run into this? Any ideas? |
There could be a rouge master browser on your subnet that's is causing problems.
Or it could even be your samba installation. Subnet master browsers are elected whenever a server comes on-line and it thinks that it should be the master and forces an election process. Is you Samba server part of a workgroup or have you added it as a domain member and are you pointing it at a valid WINS IP There could be many reasons for this... Give a bit more background in terms of the netoworking context that you Samba server is running in. You should also still be able to get at it from a Windows box even if it vansihes from the browse list Try: Start --> Run --> \\machinename BR G |
