I have lab01 with RHEL4 AS4 installed.
lab01 have a samba share on win2003 server.
however,sometimes I got the following errors on lab01 syslog.

"lab01 kernel: smb_proc_readdir_long: error=-512, breaking "
"lab01 kernel: smb_lookup: find
//3673849193847593874923943832489898437598798 failed, error=-512"

any idea about the message as above?

use mount.cifs instead of smbmount.

Sorry for my unclear description.

lab01 have a samba sharing named with "share01".
And another win2003 PC access the share01 with \\lab01-ip\share01 then
read/write to the share01.

The error message you quoted is associated with an attempt to mount a samba share on the computer which the message appears on.

What are you doing to get the error?

Pls let me showing mode details about my problem.

The error message is shown on lab01 which is RHEL4 AS4 box.

I configured a samba sharing named share01 on lab01. I also have a win2003 machine which accessing share01 via \\lab01's IP\share01 and
the win203 machine frequently read and write to share01 samba sharing
provided by lab01. And the file name under the lab01's share01 has long
length. The win2003 machine sometimes needs to find the file which has naming matched to make remove or delete action on lab01's share01.

Quote:
with an attempt to mount a samba share on the computer which the message appears on
==>
lab01 syslog showed the error message but it never attempts to mount
the samba share because it is samba server with share01 samba sharing tag.

smb_lookup: find //3673849193847593874923943832489898437598798 failed, error=-512

Suggests that smbclient, running on lab01, is trying to find a share called 3673849193847593874923943832489898437598798.

If lab01 is not supposed try to mount any samba shares, then you could try disabling smbclient on that machine. Just switch the service off.
