Samba Domain Controller Is openLDAP the Way to Go?
I'm currently in school for network systems, and i'm fairly new to domain controllers and LDAP. I'm running Debian 6 on my server, and I will be configuring it as a Samba domain controller for learning and practice purposes.
I've been reading a lot about openLDAP. Is it possible to use openLDAP hand in hand with a Samba domain controller? Samba has an LDAP account manager, but I'm a bit confused on its limitations. What packages are the best for doing what I am trying to do. I am very interested in the Samba LAM, but also in openLDAP. Are they pieces that go together? or are they two things that do the same thing? What all does a good domain controller need, and what are the better packages to use? Obviously I need Samba since my client is Win7, and obviously I need LDAP. Does openLDAP handle authentication, or do I need a Kerberos type package? I would appreciate other advice as well. Thanks! |
