I have samba configured and running on my Linux box. However on Windows 2000 I can see Samba server network call "workgroup" but when I click on it I get “The network path was not found.” Error.

Here is the result of running NET VIEW:

C:\>net view
Server Name Remark

---------------------------------------------
\\WIN2000
The command completed successfully.


C:\>net view \\ MYREDHAT
System error 53 has occurred.

The network path was not found.


I don't know if this is related, but I can ping Windows pc from Linux using both ip address and name . I can ping the linux pc by IP address but not by name. This sounds like DNS problem.

Can anyone help?

Try this :
in Windows, type ipconfig /all to get the WINS server IP of ur network.

Then, in the /etc/smb.conf, add this line :

wins server = abc.xyz..... (ur WINS server IP)

Double check the configuration file again.
