samba clients don't show up in windows

Small home network.

I have samba configured on two different systems. In both cases I can access the samba clients in windows by doing a search for computers, and entering the IP addressses. But, the systems do not show up in "my network places"

I am sure I have the workgroup set correctly. The workgroup does show up in windows, but when I click on it, none of the samba clients show up.

I am not running a dns server. Should I? Or would it help to edit the HOSTS file in windows to include the samba clients? Or is there anything else I could do?

The linux systems are debian 3.1, and the I am running samba 3.0.

Hmmm ... you will need a dns server if your clients are set for dns, and you'll need mention in the hosts files if you are using static IPs. I think you can tell windows which host is the nameserver, and the linux host acting as server will look up name requests in /etc/hosts first, the any name cache.
