Hey I'm setting up a samba server and I'm running version 2.2.5-1 and I don't know how to add user. I think the command is "smbadduser <name>:<password>" But when I enter that command in as root I get a "command not found" and I also have Samba running at the time I try adding the new userm what am I doing wrong do I have to edit the password file, I don't know what to do
The command is smbadduser. Maybe you just don't have it in your path? Try
locate smbadduser
or
find / -name smbadduser
and then use with the right path, for example
/usr/bin/smbadduser
In /usr/bin/ I have not dir called "smbadduser" so the command must not be there how can I get the command in there? Also when i did find / -name smbadduser it did not find anything. But I do have samba installed and running so I don't know why this is happening. Is there any onther way I can add a user for my samba server?
Yes I got it this is what I had to do you must first add a user to the computer "adduser" blah blah and then you must type smbpasswd -a <username> and that adds a new user to the samba server
Are you using samba as a PDC or just as a file server? I can't seem to get the PDC working, but the file server works just fine. Although it does not hide the dot files even though I have hide dot files = yes, in the global section.
Just wondering what your experience with Samba has been.
