samba

i have samba 2.2.8a

itson root # mount -t smbfs -o username=*****,password=***** //apache/share /mnt/apache
ERROR: smbfs filesystem not supported by the kernel
Please refer to the smbmnt(8) manual page
smbmnt failed: 255

so i look up google for some help, i saw something about maybe the module isnt loaded, so i type modprobe smbfs
itson root # modprobe smbfs
modprobe: Can't locate module smbfs

so im like mabe my kernel isnt compiled with smbfs support,

so i cd in /usr/src/linux
i do make clean, make menuconfig
and i find that the option is already selected under
File Systems --> Network File Systems --> SMB file system support (to mount Windows shares etc.)

so i dont know what to do now.

i also did locate smbfs.o
came up with nothing..

maybe .... there is some other options i have to select in menuconfig to be able to mount samba shares...
please help!

hum..
why would i recompile,
it was already checked when i compiled the kernel last time.

i saved my .config file, and i loaded it , thats how i was able to see if i compiled it in the kernel or not.
