Russian on vi editor

Do you know why I can't write Russian on the vi editor?

You could write those Cyrillic scripts on your wordprocessor. The
same goes with Windows based wordprocessors too.

I wrote some Russian on my wordprocessor and tried to paste it on a
file I wrote using the vi editor.

I got the following:

???????????

[ I have a smattering or Russian. I am studying Russian.]

Perhaps is it you do not provide enough clues.

What locale are you using ?
What vi clone (or not clone) are you using ?
What tty settings are you using ?
What word processor are you using ?
What terminal emulator are you using ?
What font are you using in this emulator ?
Is that font supports displaying cyrillic characters ?
...

Hi there,

Are you sure it's a problem with vi. I tried typing different accents and signs into it and it seems to work.

Maybe it's a keyboard crypting problem. You can try to change the keyboard's language to see how it works.

Hope it helps.

I thank both of you for the replies. I don't know all the pros and
cons in the vi editor.

I just use the default settings.

I changed the encoding to Cyrillic.

Now it works.

I wrote the following and it worked.

Я люблю девушки.
