RunningThunar Patch

I would like to patch thunar with this patch found here http://www.mail-archive.com/thunar-d.../msg02536.html

I have researched how to run patches and I know I have to look at the beggining of the patch to find the directory but I have no clue where "--- xfce/thunar/thunar/thunar-shortcuts-model.c" is.

once i find it i'm supposed to run "patch -p1 < patch_file" but I can't find it!!!

I also was told that I can run the patch before i compile the program does that mean if i re-install thunar and after i run "./configure" but before i run "make install" i should run "patch -p1 < patch_file"?

I may be way over my head on this one... any help would be appreciated

That patch-post is dated 23 Aug 2006 and will refer to source code from on or before that date.

I think it is unlikely that the thunar you are running is compiled from the same source code that the patch refers to (it'll be more modern) and therefore the patch won't work with the newer source code.

If you want to confine users to their home directory, or otherwise limit their abilities to change things, do a search on linux kiosk

Hmm

I looked into a linux kiosk and it is almost too basic! I have looked into chroots also and they are way to complicated for me right now and also limit my users too much.

My goal is to make a distro for my grandma where she can use thunderbird, firefox, abiword and a file manager. I am using gnome desktop manager and am going to remove the right click mouse button so nothing can be customized (and to avoid more confusion) I was just hoping to remove the root option from thunar so that it wouldn't confuse her. I'm thinking it might be easiest just to find the older source code from thunar so i can apply the patch.

Thanks for all the help!
