Unhappy Running Youtube flash on Totem Movie Player Ubuntu 6.06

I am using Ubuntu 6.06 and have loaded Totem. I can play everything I want from YouTube to the Dollar Store Digivision movies without encryption. I am happy with its performance. However, I have wanted to save Youtube videos as files. I tried loading some software without success. I found a thread which advised doing it without software by loading the video and copying the file from dev/temp file. This worked well with my friends computer which was running Ubuntu 7.10. It is giving an error message that plugins are required when I try to do the same thing on my computer running Ubuntu 6.06. Is there a quick fix or should a load a higher level of Totem?

Thanx

You should install the required codecs. I can't say exactly what package to install because I can't access a Ubuntu 6.06 box. Try opening the Synaptic Package Manager and search for gstreamer-plugins or gstreamer extra codecs (it could be packages like gstreamer-plugins-extra or gstreamer plugins ugly or so).

install libxine-extracodecs and the require gstreamer plugins

BTW, both MPlayer and VLC Player are able to play YouTube .flv files.
